One of my most important customers wasn’t even a customer. By customer I mean actually purchased something from our Hustlers Only pop up store. He was a customer that wanted to talk with us about everything they know. Somehow this Hispanic man was that important customer and I felt it. . . [Let me explain]
I Never Listen 👂🏼
As it is we can be our worst critic. We can also be our biggest downfall. You see when we begin to believe we are BEST is the day we begin LOSING. How can there be room for improvement if we believe there isn’t any? Trust me, there IS ALWAYS room for improvement. My mother told me 2 days before this pop up that Hustlers Only website was too dark and needed more color. I replied “Yeah, yeah mom you’re just hating” (jokingly of course). Of course this was my ego getting in the way. I believe sometimes we don't want to give our parents the satisfaction of being right, so we just choose to not listen.
The Power Of Color 🎨
I'm working the Hustlers Only pop up store & an older Hispanic man comes up to ask us if the pens were free. I told him yes and he began to ask us a little about our brand. As he gets to know us more he begins to go on and on about how we can improve our brand with more color. It was kind of like that uncle that talks your ear off trying to put you on game (AKA Wisdom). But For some reason I listened because although he wasn’t the ideal “customer”, he was an important one. You see as it goes, our brains are made to distinguish certain colors with different emotions. This customer was reminding me of an IMPORTANT lesson. THE POWER OF COLOR.

Listening - 1 EGO - 0 🫡
As you begin your business, this is an important lesson that we need to remember. First impression is super important, remember you only get ONE. Your logo and colors are the FIRST IMPRESSION. For us as a clothing brand it's even more important as we begin to release more pieces. A perfect example of how colors can stimulate your feelings is . . .
Ex. You walk into a black or dark room
Feelings: Sketchy, Creepy, Nightclub, Dark,
Ex. You walk into a white or light color room
Feelings: Uplifting, Calm, Relaxed, Welcoming, Store
Listening to this man was a refresher of something I had read about. My ego was of course telling me what does this man know, he doesn't have a clothing business. I tuned out my ego and turned on my listening skills. Us humans have two ears and only one mouth for a reason. If I hadn't took the 30 minutes of listening to this man go on and on about everything he knows (Yes 30 MINUTES), I would've missed the message sent to me. There was a reason this man crossed my path. He was important because believe it or not, this was a turning point in Hustlers Only.
Moral of the story ✅
Always be nice & listen to everyone when you're a business owner. I find it no coincidence that my mother told me this just two days before. The universe was trying to engrain this message into me. This man could have gone up to anybody. Nobody knows why he chose me. It could be that I was Hispanic and he felt comfortable. Maybe, I reminded him of his son he wants to give wisdom to but never listens to him. As you can see, we don’t necessarily like to listen to our parents all the time but will somehow end up listening to a stranger. I’M A PERFECT EXAMPLE. 😂 So the universe sent me a stranger then.
I could have missed my MOST IMPORTANT CUSTOMER if I had let my EGO win. . .
